Excellent opportunity for a 2024 NQ Lawyer to join the high-ranking Renewables team of a top tier Scottish law firm- this role will be based in Edinburgh.

Role Profile:

  • The Renewables team are involved in many of Scotland's largest and cutting-edge renewables developments- Clients include developers, landowners, investors and lenders.
  • The team frequently work alongside London firms delivering advice in relation to Scottish renewables assets. 
  • The technologies with which the team are involved include wind (offshore and onshore), hydro, pumped storage hydro, tidal, solar, hydrogen, anaerobic digestion, biomass plants, district heating and battery storage.
  • This role also involves dealing with both rural and commercial development on rural land. 

Examples of work include:

 

  • UK’s first vertical space launch; 
  • 150 MW onshore wind farm in Yell, Shetland with various land interests;
  • London referral work – trading of renewables assets (operational and non-operational);
  • Financing portfolio of hydro schemes at various stages of development;
  • Acting for renewables developers in relation to their onshore wind, hydro, pumped storage hydro, hydrogen and battery storage projects; and
  • Commercial development on rural land. 

Responsibilities:

Delivering a diverse range of renewable energy projects and commercial development on rural land. This role will allow you to develop expertise and a career in the sectors of most interest to you. The role will include:

  • being innovative. We are involved in new and evolving technologies- The work can be ground-breaking.
  • getting involved in large scale, high value, time critical, newsworthy projects;
  • understanding complex titles;
  • dealing with options and leases for renewables projects;
  • preparing and negotiating certificates of title to support asset transfers and financing;
  • complex project work;
  • crofting law; and
  • working on a regular basis on renewables deals with colleagues in practice areas across the firm including Projects, Planning, Banking and Corporate, working as one energy team in the delivery of these deals.
  • Being aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protecting information from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times. 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Ideally you will have completed a seat in renewables, however this is not essential. 
  • An interest in the renewables industry and its drivers- It is an exciting and innovative area that is continually developing.
  • An interest in commercial development on rural land. 
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritise and organised.
  • A sense of fun, a can-do attitude and a desire to work in a team and with the team.
  • The ability to adapt in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Self-motivated and driven.
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • An interest in business development.
