This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's market-leading Construction team of a top tier national law firm. You will work as part of a high-ranking team and the role will be based in Edinburgh.  The team advise on every aspect of Construction Law across all sectors of the industry, both contentious and non-contentious. The work of the group is hugely varied and includes buildings, civil and process plant engineering, energy, infrastructure and utilities - across both private and public sectors.  The team also provide project support and advice to our wider Real Estate, Banking and Projects teams.  Uniquely, there is an opportunity to gain experience of both contentious and non-contentious construction matters. 

Role Profile:

  • The firm are looking to hire a Construction lawyer to join their Edinburgh based team to work on a variety of construction matters (which may includes construction, projects or environment). We're happy to receive applications from candidates seeking a role on qualification or a current Construction Lawyer seeking their next challenge. The role will involve working with both contentious and non-contentious construction teams. 
  • This is a high performing, cohesive and busy team with a strong reputation for providing associates with early levels of responsibility within a supportive and stretching environment and therefore you can expect to take a leading role on some matters.  At this stage in your career the team will take a genuine interest and support you with your development therefore offering excellent career prospects.
  • You will have gained at least six months construction experience during training contract or post qualification at a leading practice recognised for construction or Real Estate work. Candidates will therefore have a good grounding in construction law (contentious and/or non-contentious), which should include building work, preferably with process plant, energy and utility and/or infrastructure experience. 

Candidate Requirements: 

  • Ideally you will have at least six months experience in non contentious construction law, ideally set in construction or projects and gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level.  
  • You will have experience of drafting a variety of construction documents and experience of JCT contracts (or other standard forms such as NEC3) as a minimum, and/or experience gained in a contentious construction environment including court work and/or adjudication.     
  • You will have ability to contribute to the general upkeep of the group (whether that be to training, precedents, or know-how generally).  
  • You will possess the ability to actively support complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed.
