Unique role for an employment lawyer to work in-house with one of the UK's most innovative academic institutions. This role is based in Scotland with hybrid-working also an option. 

This position is fixed-term for 12 months. 

Role Profile:

  • You will help the Director of Legal to ensure that the University receives high quality legal advice on demand with an emphasis on employment law matters.
  • You can expect to be involved in advising the business on all aspects of employment law including  within contractual agreements; organisational change; commercial transactions; managing claims, disputes, complex grievances, and contentious disciplinary matters; and advising on application of internal policies and procedures.
  • Interest and experience in advising on a full range of employment advisory, litigation and organisational support matters is important.
  • You will be able to work independently and autonomously and be a key part of the legal team liaising with senior management who will rely on you for your commercially focussed, solution orientated advice.
  • Other responsibilities include providing commercial and legal advice as required by the Director of Legal outside of employment law brief as needed.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Have substantial and relevant legal experience in private practice and/or in an in-house role as a solicitor advising on HR/commercial/corporate law matters.
  • Ability to provide commercial advice and take a pragmatic approach to solving legal and commercial problems.
  • An ability to effectively communicate complex topics and concepts to a diverse audience and show the highest professional standards of operation and service is essential.
  • The candidate will have a high degree of self-confidence and convey an authoritative manner and will command the respect of others whilst being seen as someone of integrity, sincerity and in whom others place their trust. The ability to develop strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and have strong influencing skills is needed. The role holder must show a thorough approach to work, be detail conscious, have high personal standards and be able to organise them self and others effectively whilst showing commercial awareness and understanding.
