Unique opportunity for a commercial lawyer with circa 6 years PQE to join the in-house function of a leading international law firm- this role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow (with remote-working options available)

The role is a broad commercial role. In this role you will provide commercial contracts support to the businesses including:

  • Negotiating and amending standard contract terms and supporting the account management teams in various jurisdictions with contract negotiations with clients and/or consultants/freelance lawyers;
  • Applying a pragmatic, commercial and, in some cases, risk management approach to all contract work, often against tight deadlines;
  • Negotiation and drafting of bespoke client agreements;
  • Advising on amendments to panel terms;
  • Drafting contract amendments to reflect regulatory change (UK) and supporting process change;
  • Taking ownership of specific projects or initiatives and providing legal support and input on various regulatory compliance projects (for example, implementation of changes to the Off-payroll Working Rules, Agency Workers Regulations, Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations) ;  
  • Identifying and communicating legal developments;
  • Liaising with other specialist departments to ensure legal policies and procedures affecting the businesses remain compliant, up to date and relevant;
  • Coordinating specialist advice on legal matters on an ongoing basis (for example, employment law advice in the UK and other jurisdictions, tax advice etc);
  • Maintenance of template agreements and creation of playbooks (UK);Providing legal input and support around solutions development for the businesses new products/propositions and new engagement models/changes to existing engagement models.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer with circa 6+ PQE gain in a commercial role in private practice experience or equivalent in-house experience.
  • Previous in-house experience or private practice experience advising clients who provide or receive some or all of the following types of services: professional services, legal services/ alternative legal services, employment and/ or recruitment services, technology services, outsourced/ managed services.   
  • Understanding of and interest in the changes in the legal sector.                                       
  • Technical excellence in contract drafting and amending and ability to apply skills to a wide range of commercial agreements.
  • Experience dealing with all legal aspects of commercial agreements. In particular, experience of IP, DP and employment related aspects highly desirable.
  • Skilled negotiator.
  • Highly responsive and able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to prioritise and make sound judgements on contract issues and level of acceptable risk.
  • Solution driven - ability to solve problems creatively, pragmatically and effectively.
