Legal Technology Specialist - Glasgow

Leading UK financial services organisation is looking to add a Legal Technology Specialist to join their Legal & Regulatory team- this role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow and Hybrid-Working also available. 

Role Profile:

Working as part of the legal and regulatory team, you will assist in the adoption of technology and reviewing internal processes to work more efficiently and improve the quality of service provided to the business. The team has already successfully implemented several solutions, including a work intake tool to make it easy for the business to get help from the legal team and self-serve for simpler queries. To meet a growing need to use technology and identify process efficiencies to deliver legal work, the team are looking for someone dedicated to managing their legal technology solutions and who can lead on designing, building, implementing, and embedding legal technology and process improvement projects. The role will involve:

  • Proactively and objectively assess the way the team operates and work with its internal clients, suggesting, and driving implementation of, improvements (which may not be technology based).
  • Work with stakeholders to scope, map, and design appropriate solutions.
  • Evaluate the benefits of different solutions and carry out detailed ROI assessments based on a good understanding of commercial terms and requirements.
  • Design, configure and/or develop prototypes, run proof of concepts, and undertake final builds of new legal technology, services, and solutions (with support from the wider Team and business as required).
  • Carry out maintenance of existing legal technology solutions and ensure these continue to deliver value to the business.
  • Develop expert knowledge of the features and capabilities of the core technologies used by the Team, how they meet the Team’s requirements and how they can be used to solve different type of problem.
  • Assist in the integration, configuration, and further customisation of new and existing solutions to include engaging with IT (Business Apps and Core IT) and other stakeholders.
  • Promote the benefits of legal technology to the rest of the team and colleagues across the business.
  • Undertake stakeholder management and manage change with a view to developing and cultivating relationships with stakeholders.
  • Educate and raise awareness of the team’s services and the value they deliver.
  • Promote and support use of existing legal/regulatory technology (e.g., DocuSign) and encourage innovative uses.
  • Train users and provide presentations and demos of legal technology solutions and be a super user and trainer for users.
  • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues on appropriate technology to help improve processes, identify, and capture data and to improve the client experience.
  • Explore how the range of data collected by the team can be used to maximum effect.
  • Give ad hoc advice and support to the team to help embed solutions.
  • Provide know-how on legal technology, the legal market and technology trends and solutions and undertake networking with members of the legal tech community.
  • Become a centre of excellence for how the team uses legal technology, including the creation and maintenance of relevant governance and collateral materials.

Candidate Requirements:

  • You may be a qualified lawyer looking to move into a specialist non-fee earning role, a law graduate or paralegal with technology experience. 
  • You will be creative, experimental approach to problem solving with an ability to manage critical issues quickly and effectively.
  • A strong communicator who can work collaboratively with stakeholders throughout the business at all levels and articulate the value of new solutions, with the ability to be flexible in approach as required.
  • Deep knowledge of SharePoint, including experience building, managing, and administering sites.
  • Early adopter and advocate of technology, market developments and innovations. Broad understanding of legal technology and the digital technology markets.
  • Broad understanding of solution architecture and quick to understand of how to repurpose technology to solve new problems.
  • Some experience in design thinking or similar innovation techniques and methodology.
  • Basic project management skills including an understanding of how to interpret stakeholder’s needs and translate them into business/operational requirements. The candidate should be able to take ownership of legal technology projects from initial idea through to delivery and roll out.
  • Ability to support on delivering and embedding solutions with particular focus on change management methodologies.
  • Keen team player with the ability to self-start and engage with a varied cross section of fee earners across the business.
  • Tenacious, driven individual who can be flexible as the needs of the role and/or audience change and is skilled at working collaboratively and with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience in legal technologies, including e-signature, document automation, contract management, legal playbooks and matter management is not necessary but would be highly valued.
  • Experience using range of tools and technologies, including other Microsoft products (knowledge of Power Platform and Visio would be particularly advantageous.
